Rowlands and Delaney in Eire Squad

Martin Rowlands and Damien Delaney have been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for games against Serbia and Colombia, the latter for his first cap.

Martin Rowlands, the Rangers vice-skipper, would pick up his third international cap if involved in either of the two games presided over by new boss Giovanni Trapattoni. The Rangers central midfielder has been in scintillating form this season making 43 appearances and scoring 6 goals. Statistics that saw him sweep the player of the year awards.

Damien Delaney can look forward to his first cap for his country and was delighted when speaking to QPR.CO.UK:

"I`m absolutely buzzing, it`s a dream come true - it hasn`t really sunk in yet and it probably won`t until I meet up with the lads on Thursday"

The Rangers full back continued:

"It will be the highlight of my professional career so far. Representing your country is the ultimate honour and I intend to give my all at the training camp in Portugal in a bid to persuade Mr. Trapattoni to select me for the friendlies."

"I don`t know what to expect from the next few weeks. All I can do is give my best, I know a few lads from over the years and it`ll be great to have Rowley there too."

Delaney explained his transfer to QPR may have sealed the deal:

"I think being in the spotlight for QPR helped matters. Being in London probably helped too, but I`d like to think my own performances justify my selection."

"I`ve always been of the opinion that as long as you do a good job for your club, the rest takes care of itself"

Delaney joined the R`s in the January transfer window, and has been a revelation at left back since joining the R`s from Hull City starting 17 games and scoring 1 goal for the R`s.
