Ainsworth Bags Coaching Role

Gareth Ainsworth was today handed a new role in the restructured Queens Park Rangers coaching set-up.

Today Queens Park Rangers announced that Gareth Ainsworth would take on a player/coach role under the new Iain Dowie regime.

There were fears that Ainsworth would not feature in a coaching capacity with Dowie yesterday introducing Tim Flowers and John Harbin to his backroom staff.

Club Captain Ainsworth had previously assisted Luigi De Canio on an unofficial basis, and certainly looked suited to a coaching role, as well as being in dazzling form on the pitch which suggests he has a lot to give in both forms of the game.

Ainsworth, who recently celebrated his 35th birthday, was delighted with his new role:

"It`s a great opportunity for me, I`m over the moon about it"

"I had a taste of it last year and this is another exciting opportunity for me, another step forwards in my long-term aspirations."

He was quick to remind people however he was not done on the playing front:

"I`ve still got plenty to offer as a player, but I`m delighted I`ve been given the chance to learn from Iain and Tim, who I have huge respect for."

Ainsworth made 25 appearances for the R`s last season, scoring 2 goals.

Fantastic news - after what we were saying yesterday, when Flowers' appointment was announced! Good luck, Gareth - a future QPR manager in the making?!!

He's passionate about the cause, and I would never rule such a move out, would fill me with pride to see him as manager one day. Really genuinely cares, but sadly we may surpass his capabilities.
