Ashley Has Hooped Dreams

Newcastle United Chairman Mike Ashley wants to follow Queens Park Rangers approach to club ownership.

A self-professed Newcastle United fan, Ashley wears his black and white with pride and sits amongst the Geordie faithful. Ashley has poured money into Newcastle United in search of the dream of winning any competition with the Toon Army`s trophy cabinet remaining dormant for quite some time.

Now he looks to Queens Park Rangers in search of a similar model of success. Whilst laughing off suggestions that he was negotiating with Osama Bin Laden`s half brother, Bakr Bin Laden he had praise for the way that Rangers went about their business.

"The QPR model looks very interesting," Ashley told The Times

"It's something that Newcastle needs to look at. It's got to be able to compete. Newcastle is not something you make a profit on, you have to enjoy and love it."

"If we had some multibillionaire that wanted a stake in Newcastle, it will help, but sell the club? It's not the same answer."

Ashley is currently the 54th richest man in the United Kingdom, according to the Sunday Times Rich List, but Rangers backer Lakshmi Mittal still heads the list remaining the 4th richest man in the world.

A deal between the two clubs was struck of late with Peter Ramage making the move from his boyhood club to Rangers in a deal that went through on the 1st July.
