'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Transfer Week In Words

Vital QPR gives a selection of quotes from the weeks dealings in the Championship.

Nicky Maynard from Crewe to Bristol City - 2,250,000

Bristol City broke their transfer record to take on Crewe youth product Nicky Maynard. The young forward from Winsford made 59 league appearances for Alex, scoring 32 goals.

He makes the step up to Championship level with Gary Johnson expecting big things from the 21 year old striker.

'He's exactly the type of player we've been looking very hard to bring in." Johnson said.

'The lad has fantastic potential and is determined to get to the Premier League with us. I've had a chat with him and he's a real football person."

Chris Eagles from Manchester United to Burnley - Undisclosed

The Eagle landed at Turf Moor recently from Manchester United after making only 6 league appearances for the European giants with loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday, NEC Nijmegen and twice with Watford.

The 22 year old born in Hemel Hempstead has been on the periphery of the Old Trafford set up in recent years without making a consistent breakthrough and has gone in search of first team football.

Boss Owen Coyle spoke about the attributes of the attacking midfielder,

'We are delighted because Chris beings his own attributes and talents to the club. We are trying to get the ball down and play and I think he adds to the talents we already have.

'He can play as a striker, off the strikers, out wide and in central midfield, but more than that he is a talented footballer and we can't wait to start working with him.'

Madjid Bougherra from Charlton Athletic to Glasgow Rangers - 2,500,000.

The French born, Algerian international moves to Glasgow Rangers from Charlton continuing the exodus from the Valley which has seen experienced players such as Chris Iwelumo and Marcus Bent leave for pastures new.

Bougherra shot to attention in English football whilst on loan at Crewe from Guengnon, but a permanent deal wasn`t forthcoming for Crewe, he instead opted to join Sheffield Wednesday, who paid 300,000 for his services. He then made the 2,500,000 move to the Valley from Hillsborough, and Charlton have recouped the value on the international defender.

Chief executive Steve Wiggot stated,

'Every player wants to play at the highest level, and once Madjid knew that clubs of the stature of Rangers and Real Betis were tracking him, it slightly unsettled him,"

'It's been a long, drawn out affair, lasting over three weeks, but we've secured the best possible deal for both the player and ourselves."

Kaspars Gorkss from Blackpool to QPR - Undisclosed.

One of the longest running transfer saga`s of the summer came to a head recently when Kaspars Gorkss finally made the move to W12 from Blackpool, with Karl Oyston dropping his protestations, I`ll let you read into that what you will.

Going the other way in the deal was Zesh Rehman (loan) and Daniel Nardiello (free) as Rangers looked to overhaul their squad for the forthcoming season. The Latvian international came over after a successful sting with Latvian side Ventspils, before impressing in Blackpool`s promotion season and their survival campaign.

'Kaspars knows we intend to play good, attractive football, and he wants to be a part of it,' Manager Iain Dowie said.

'We've signed an international defender who has a great physical presence, good pace and is comfortable on the ball. He's an ambitious lad who wants to take his game forward.'

'His presence adds great competition for places across the backline, and that's exactly what I am after.'

Lee Cook from Fulham to QPR - Loan

Lee Cook made the move back to W12 on a season long loan from Fulham, with a view to a permanent transfer. A self professed QPR fan Cook turned down a number of clubs to rejoin his beloved Rangers.

Cook came to Rangers on loan, before the deal became permanent upon the R`s reaching the Championship. He had previous spells with Aylesbury United and York City. Cookie will be undoubtedly remembered for the amount of assists he made and his efforts in keeping Rangers first safe from relegation, then liquidation after handing back his 10% cut of the transfer fee.

'I'm absolutely delighted to be back,' said Cook

'Once it became clear I could leave Fulham there was only one Club I wanted to move to.

'I had a great rapport with the supporters here in my previous spells and I'm looking forward to playing in front of the Loftus Road faithful again.'

Dave Cotterill from Wigan Athletic to Sheffield United - Undisclosed.

Cotterill makes the move to Sheffield United permanent after a successful loan spell at the back end of last season. After impressing as a youngster at Bristol City, Paul Jewell parted with 2,000,000 for the young winger`s services. First team chances were limited at the JJB and he joined the Blades on loan.

An undisclosed fee has been paid for Cotterill, a deal which has Kevin Blackwell delighted,

'Bringing David here is something we have been trying to conclude since the end of last season. He did quite well feeding in balls for Beattie and Sharp and now with Henderson on board, we need that kind of service.

'He is only 20 and a full international. He has shown glimpses of the real potential that enabled Bristol City to sell him for 2m. David had set his heart on a move here, is prepared to look for a house in the area and we are showing the same commitment to bring him in.'
