'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Walton Relishes West Country Challenge

Simon Walton completed his move to Plymouth Argyle from QPR today, and is delighted with the transfer to Home Park.

Barely a year on from Walton signing for the R`s and subsequently breaking his leg against Fulham, he has seen two managers leave and the outlook in W12 change dramatically.

Walton signed for Rangers from Charlton Athletic in a deal worth £200,000, after brief loan spells at Cardiff City and Ipswich Town, and the combative midfielder was delighted with his latest switch,

"The move is massive." Walton told PAFC.co.uk

'Over the past year with injuries, I've hit bit of a brick wall so I think this is an ideal place to get back on track and get where I want to be personally and as part of the team as well."

The Pilgrims beat their transfer record for the third tie this year as Walton`s deal topped the deal taking Steve McLean to Home Park for £500,000 from Sheffield Wednesday back in January of this year.

Ironically enough Walton`s only league start came for the R`s at Home Park, as he played the entire match at centre back with now Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake put the R`s to the sword with a well taken double, the latter in the final minute.

'It's really exciting' continued Walton

'It's a fresh start for me and I want to make the best start possible.

'It'll be a tough game but there are tough games in this league.

'I think that it's even harder this year in terms of picking out two teams that are going to finish near the top.

'It's very hard league to predict and anyone is in with a chance at both ends.'

Simon Walton started his career with home town club Leeds United, where his combative midfield style won the hearts of the Leeds faithful. He fell out of favour after a plethora of midfielders were introduced to the side following relegation to the Championship.

Iain Dowie moved to sign the young midfielder for Charlton Athletic for £500k, but due to the untimely nature of his departure, loan spells with Cardiff City and Ipswich Town followed.

The R`s moved to sign the midfielder for £200k, but after breaking his leg in a pre-season friendly, Walton was loaned out to Hull City with manager Luigi De Canio unwilling to try the player.

After helping the Tigers to promotion, Walton came back to the R`s and played some pre-season fixtures for the R`s, but Dowie opted not to keep Simon with midfielders at surplus in W12.
