Loftus Road - The Kingfisher Stadium?

The Daily Mail have released an article indicating that it may not be long before Rangers re-name Loftus Road.

The article from the Daily Mail website claims that Rangers may be on the verge on renaming the ground in accordance with potential big name sponsors, Kingfisher.

Queens Park Rangers are close to agreeing a new £20million shirt sponsorship deal that would bring a third major figure from Formula One into the club - and could result in Loftus Road being renamed the Kingfisher Stadium.

Quite how much truth can be read into this, when you consider the club already has an existing shirt sponsor, and Flavio Briatore is already threatening to pursue legal action against the said paper over the Queens Park City story outlined below.

Sportsmail understands that Vijay Mallya, the Indian billionaire and co-owner of F1 team Force India, wants to join forces with Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone and advertise his Kingfisher beer on the team shirts.

A deal is said to be close to completion and could be announced as early as next week. But the five-year agreement could also include the naming rights of a stadium where QPR first played in 1917.

It was only recently that Briatore is even said to have considered renaming the club - to Queens Park City - in order to emphasise its position in the capital.

Rangers have already announced lucrative deals with Santander, Gulf Air and kit manufacturers Lotto. Indeed this latest coup would be another feather in Mr. Briatore`s ever expanding cap.

The fact that the Mail have tried to resurrect the "Queens Park City" nonesense suggests this might be more drivel from this highly disreputable rag Anyway, Kingfisher were being touted in the early summer & nothing happened - so why would anything be more likely to happen now? And if it did, and it brought in more money to the club, I say - good! I can live with "Kingfisher Stadium" - if it means we can have serious money to buy serious players to improve our team :-D

Some serious money to go in Flavio's back pocket, the club won't see that money - I don't understand his reluctance to spend money that isn't even his!
