First Team Duo Strike in Reserves Defeat

Rangers reserves were edged out in a five-goal thriller as Southampton took the points in W12.

Goals either side of half time from Jake Thomson and Oscar Gobern put the Saints in a commanding position, despite the R`s performing ably.

Italian International Damiano Tommasi, Matthew Connolly and Hogan Ephraim were amongst the members of the first team squad to make an appearance along with goal scoring Columbian Angelo Balanta.

The evergreen Gareth Ainsworth fed the young forward who netted from close range.

Matt Paterson extended the lead for Southampton following a wonder save by Lee Camp onto the cross bar. Rangers second choice stopper made the save from Ryan Smith, but Paterson was on hand to nod home from close range.

The R`s wouldn`t lie down and Adam Bolder left a timely reminder to boss Iain Dowie with his well placed shot to reduce the arrears.
