'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fry: Lewis Going Nowhere

Barry Fry has quashed speculation that young goalkeeper Joe Lewis could be on his way out of the club.

Director of Football and former manager, Fry, indicated that while they are evidently talented young players, they will not be moving away from London Road.

'We are trying to build a team here capable of winning promotion and Craig is part of that, so we won't be looking to sell him any time in the near future.

'We had a bid of a million pounds offered to us a year ago for him, which we turned down flat, and we are not interested in selling our best players.

'Joe is also part of the side and we don't want to let any of our players leave the club. The board have backed the manager all the way and have proven, by rejecting big offers for both Mackail-Smith and Aaron McLean, that they have the backbone to keep our stars here.'

This has become increasingly significant in recent weeks with the R`s linked with manager Darren Ferguson and now with Lee Camp seemingly on his way, Rangers are linked with former Norwich stopper Joe Lewis.

It is believed that the goalkeeper would command a £2,000,000 asking price - a heavy price tag even for a talented keeper. His talents haven`t escaped the attentions of England manager Fabio Capello who had sensationally included him in the senior England squad.
