'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ex-R Back In The Championship

Former R`s defender Michael Mancienne has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan from Premier League Chelsea.

20 year old Mancienne has found himself on the periphery of the Chelsea squad this season, but with numerous injuries and still limited appearances he made no secret of his desire to move away in search of first team football.

The defender who could be deployed in a central role as well as full back, made 61 appearances for QPR over two loan spells from local rivals Chelsea, and after his first season was voted supporters young player of the year.

He also picked up a nasty injury while playing in a Rangers shirt that saw him miss the end of the 2006/07 season as Michael Ricketts boot to the head left the young defender with concussion and persistent dizziness.

Since then he made a short-lived move to Bristol City on loan but was recalled almost instantaneously by Luiz Felipe Scolari after an injury to England central defender John Terry.

He joins Wolverhampton Wanderers on a two month loan deal, but it seems he may even have to wait at Molineux for first team opportunities:

'We wanted some defensive cover, because 14 in five games isn't good enough," said Mick McCarthy.

'Michael is a good defender and very quick. He is travelling up on Monday and could be in the squad on Tuesday but I wouldn't want to throw him in without doing some work with him first.'

why did we not get him on loan, did we not enquire?does he not want to play for us?does flav not rate him?or do we not need an up and coming england defender?or maybe flav thinks ramage and delaney are enough cover....dream on flav.

He is a quality player isn't he - I think he went backwards playing for us though, and has picked up again in the Under 21's. You might say we dragged him down to our level!

this is news that gives me the needle,if mancienne does'nt want to play for us then fair enough, but if i knew that rangers did'nt make a move for him THEN WHY???????Surely he is better than what we have....delaney,ramage i mean come on lets get real this lad can play and would be the ideal replacement for the two (at the moment)donkeys that we have.I dont wish to sound a moaner but i cant see the sense in not loaning him ...or is it the Italian stud at it again, keep going flav you might have saved us but your on your way to destroy us.

I cannot agree that Flavio is the sole cause, who knows maybe Dowie didn't want him? Dowie mantle seems to have been four centre-back's across the back, and lets face facts we have the fourth best defence in the league, two consecutive clean sheets, none too shabby.
Boxer
Exactly. We have a bloody good defense and really don't need Mancienne.

Not to mention the likes of Gorkss and Connolly to come in.
Boxer
lee cooke..our defense is so good we have to play a midfielder at right back..and thank god we did, maybe next week we'll play lee cooke at centre half.
simmo69
we are sorted at the center half positions we have 7 of them! all with brilliant ability. The problem is we don't have full backs and i don't want to see mancienne play right back
LeeCookFan
Another clean sheet, three in a row
Boxer
if we play legs and connelly as full backs we will continue to gain clean sheets but we have bought ramage and delaney who are at present showing weakneses,so it is with that in mind i would prefer mancienne to fill in,as you have mentioned we have our fair share of c/h at the club it would be nice to have good cover for our fullbacks and in my opinion mr mancienne has and would be great cover, plus what an asset he will be for us in the future if chelsea decided to sell him.I know many fans who were upset that we did not get him on loan but were of the opinion that we will eventually get him,its not a matter who WE prefer its what could benefit our club in the short and long term.
