One To Watch - Ben Watson

Vital QPR has picked out want-away Crystal Palace midfielder Ben Watson as the One To Watch for Saturday.

The midfielder has had a short but distinguished career in the middle of the park for the Eagles, where he has won a lot of admirers, including for a brief period Queens Park Rangers, for whom he was expected to join in the summer.

Watson broke into the Crystal Palace side aged 17 making his debut in a 1-0 home defeat to Watford, whilst his first goal came the following season at the New Den in a South London derby against Millwall.

Since then Watson has made 182 appearances, scoring 18 goals for the Eagles. He was voted Crystal Palace`s young player of the year in 2007.

Despite scoring two goals in the play-off`s last season against Bristol City, the midfielder missed a crucial penalty at Ashton Gate, which effectively cost Palace their place in the final.

He also has Under-21 international honours, making two appearances for England Under 21`s.

As you may remember during the summer a deal to bring Watson to QPR was all but finalised with Iain Dowie looking to reuinte with the midfielder he got to know in his time at Crystal Palace.

However the deal fell through and the want-away midfielder was forced to go back to Neil Warnock and play for his place once again.

To his credit he has done just that scoring five goals in 15 starts for the Eagles, as he works his way back into Neil Warnock`s plans. The questions is however, for how long will he remain a Palace player with Watson in no hurry to re-sign a contract that expires at the end of the current campaign.
