'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sousa's Tactics Save The Day

Paulo Sousa was delighted that his tactical shift paid dividends as the R`s once again dealt Preston a blow with a late goal.

With ten minutes remaining and the game poised at 2-2, Sousa threw on Dexter Blackstock and Fitz Hall at the expense of Damien Delaney and Peter Ramage. This prompted a shift from 4-4-2, to 3-4-3 - a change that ultimately won the R`s the game.

'It was a very important tactical change,' Sousa told QPR.co.uk

'We needed to win the three points and we did, so of course it was a successful change.

'We had worked on changing to a 3-4-3 in training and the players responded to it.'

It was Dexter Blackstock that once again came up with the goods, glancing a header home from a delightful Martin Rowlands free kick. Sousa paid tribute to Dexter and the team:

He said: 'Dexter's goal was excellent. A good delivery from Martin (Rowlands) and a great, great header.

'I am very happy for him and the rest of the players - they were first class.'

Sousa also paid tribute to not just the first team players, but the whole squad and believed their ability to keep battling in the face of adversity saw them through.

He said: 'We are a squad, not a team, and every player counts for us,'

'I am proud for all my players. They are all important for the team and today, with a lot of decisions going against us - like the two penalty decisions - they didn't let it affect them.'

Smart movefrom a smart man - he's obviously not afraid of changing from "plan A" to "plan B" as & when necessary. And, what's more, he HAS a plan B!!!
