The official QPR website has just confirmed that manager Paulo Sousa has made the loan deal of striker Heidar Helguson permanent.
The striker joined the Rs on loan on 20th November 2008, just as Sousa's appointment as manager was being confirmed.
In the seven games that Helguson played for us, he scored 3 goals. Although anyone at the Crystal Palace and Wolves games will remember that Helguson could have opened his scoring for us long before he hit the net in the away game at Plymouth!
Helguson has done enough, in those 7 games, to impress Sousa, who told www.qpr.co.uk: 'Heidar has proved to be a valuable member of the squad ... and I am delighted we've managed to bring him here on a permanent deal.
'He is a proven goalscorer at this level,' Sousa noted.
Helguson joined the Rs from Bolton, for an undisclosed fee. Before playing for Bolton, who he joined in July 2007 and for whom he only managed 6 appearances (scoring 2 goals), Helguson played for London clubs Fulham and Watford. He made 148 starts for the Hornets (plus 51 appearances as a sub), scoring 64 goals. He made 37 starts for Fulham with a further 26 appearances as sub. He scored 14 goals for the Fulham outfit.
The Icelandic forward told www.qpr.co.uk: 'I have really enjoyed my loan spell here and I am happy that my future is sorted out.' Helguson added: 'I believe we have a great opportunity to push on in the second half of the season and I am looking forward to playing my part in what promises to be an exciting future for this Club.'
I am sure that everyone at VitalQPR will join me in welcoming Helguson to the QPR family - on a permanent basis! Let us hope he can continue in his good scoring vein - starting tomorrow afternoon against Burnley?!!
