Rumours persist that Dexter Blackstock is wanted by our neighbours Fulham, along with fellow Prem Leaguers West Brom and Bolton. Figures have been bandied about in the press - £2,000,000 or £4,000,000 are just two I have heard.
And now I am hearing that Rangers are prepared to increase Dexter's weekly wages to £15,000 just so they can keep him at the club!
My question to you all is, should we take the money and run? Dont get me wrong - I know he is our top scorer, with 11 goals so far this season. And that puts him firmly on target for 20+ for the season, a target we have all been saying we need if we are to look even marginally like a promotion-winning side.
But, on the other hand, I have found Blackstock's attitude at times infuriating - bordering on rebellious. Last weekend, in the FA Cup tie against Burnley, he looked disinterested and lazy. He was frequently out of position - and with the defensive midfield we had out there, and the strength of our defence these days; there was no excuse for him not to be loitering around the final third for the full 90 minutes.
There was an incident, which I did not witness personally, but was reported by another fan, that Blackstock snubbed Sousa in the 2nd half, when Sousa was having a go at him. Surely that sort of behaviour, if true, cannot be tolerated from anybody? If the manager gives you a rollicking - maybe you deserve it! And you should buck up your ideas, listen to what the manager wants, and then do it - and not turn your back on the manager when he is talking to you and walk away!
Personally, I am very torn when it comes to our young striker. He frustrates me - he scores some sublime and vital goals for us, and yet there are times when he looks like he would rather be anywhere else than out on the pitch playing for QPR. I certainly would not want to sell him if we did not have someone lined up as a replacement - and a worthwhile replacement, not some of the names we have been linked with in the press just so they can write! But £4,000,000 is an awful lot of money for the kid . . .!
