Cook Tips Defender For Award

Lee Cook believes that Damion Stewart has been an influential figure in Rangers recent rise towards the playoffs.

Damion Stewart is one of the R`s longest serving players, joining the R`s from Jamaican outfit Harbour View back in June 2006. Gary Waddock was his first Rangers manager, and since then he has seen three managers and two caretakers come and go in W12.

Rangers winger Lee Cook told the Kilburn Times of his delight concerning the performances of the R`s rearguard, most notably that of the big Jamaican.

He said: 'I think one of the old boys has really been the most outstanding player this year, and that is Damion Stewart,'

'This is his third year [at QPR] and this is the best he has played by far - Damion is in great form. He's solid at the back for us and I think you can tell that by the amount of clean sheets that we are keeping.

'At the back we've got Stewart, Kaspars Gorkss - who has come in and done well - and obviously you've got Fitz Hall,

'The defence are playing really well, but I would say that it is Damion who has been outstanding so far.'

The newspaper intimates that Cook wants Damion Stewart to land the player of the year award in the Championship.

In his 123 appearances for QPR, Damion Stewart has scored 10 goals - his most notable the League Cup winner away at Aston Villa earlier on in the campaign.

The Jamaican who impressed during a loan spell with Bradford City prior to signing for QPR, is an international stalwart - having made 36 appearances and scoring two goals for the Reggae Boyz.
