Zesh Alarmed By Lack Of Asian Players

Zesh Alarmed By Lack Of Asian Players

QPR defender Zesh Rehman believed that the lack of Asian footballers plying their trade in the English game is shocking.

Speaking to the BBC the Pakistan international believes that the steps taken in the last ten years hasn`t been enough.

He said: 'I think it's shocking to be perfectly honest. Seven out of 92 league clubs is alarming,'

'I think the first report about Asians in football came out about 10 years ago. So in 10 years to only have seven Asian players come through is still not enough.

'You can't tell me that Asian kids don't love football because they do.

'Anything that's going to help encourage them to get into the game or believe they have part in it is great.'

Rehman is the only Asian footballer to play in all four divisions, which appears to be a downward trend at the moment being on loan with League Two Bradford City.

He is seen as a roll model for Asian footballers and sportsmen alike as he told the PFA in the past: "My sole purpose in trying to be a success as a professional footballer is to inspire other Asian players to follow my lead and achieve their goals'.

I think Zesh is getting impatient, these things take decades to sort out. With Chelsea now sniffing around Sri Lanka it proves that it's working to an extent already.
