Former QPR defender Josh Ford has completed his move away from W12 by joining Rushden and Diamonds.

The Blue Square Premier outfit has taken on Ford as cover for injuries as their season draws to a close in mid-table security.

He had been a free agent following his release from Rangers in January and has been searching for a contract ever since.

Manager and former Tottenham defender Justin Edinburgh admits that he took advice from Gareth Ainsworth on the deal, and has never personally seen him play.

Speaking to the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph Edinburgh indicated that it is a calculated gamble.

He said: 'Today will be the first time I've met the lad as, to be honest, I haven't even seen him train or play.

'So it's a gamble. But it won't cost us anything because the window has closed for transfers and loan deals.

'This is an opportunity for him to show us that he will be worth a contract next season."

Ford made the move to QPR after coming up through the ranks at Bristol City, and made quite an impression on the youth system with a string of useful defensive displays.

Unfortunately it hadn`t worked out for him in W12 as he trialled with Swansea City and Cardiff City before joining up with Salisbury City after the turn of the New Year.

In the other direction comes Chris Arthur who has failed to impress in his brief period at Nene Park off the back of a disappointing spell at rivals Kettering Town.

He made two appearances for Diamonds giving away a last minute penalty on his debut against Mansfield Town which Robert Duffy duly dispatched.

Edinburgh said that this was a gamble that has ultimately failed in its original intention.

He said: 'He has gone back and it was another gamble which hasn't paid off directly.

'However, it did work by having an effect on Marcus Kelly who gave the right response.'

Lap of Onuoha

A NEDUM Onuoha strike early in the second half saw Queens Park Rangers edge out Wigan Athletic in a fairly nondescript affair at the DW Stadium.

A game that never really got going was settled early in the second period when the Latics failed to clear a set-piece and the QPR skipper powered home from just inside the area.

Both sides created half chances but never really got out of first gear - with Grant Hall in particular a rock throughout to snuff out an endless array of Luke Garb
