Ramage Backs Dowie To Succeed

Peter Ramage was full of praise for former QPR boss Iain Dowie - backing him to be a success on Tyneside.

Dowie was appointed as assistant to Newcastle hero Alan Shearer - who finally took up the option to become the boss of his beloved Toon.

The Rangers full back Peter Ramage played the majority of his football under Dowie despite being signed before the Dowie deal was publicly confirmed.

He told Chronicle Live that Dowie was one of the main reasons he signed for Rangers and he will help steer the Toon clear of the relegation mire.

He said: "I spoke to a few people about the gaffer, Alan included, before I signed, and he`s highly regarded.

"Unfortunately, it didn`t work out for him here, but Iain`s a good coach, and he`ll get his point across.

"He`ll definitely help Newcastle, and he`ll definitely help Alan.

"It`s just a shame he didn`t spend more time down here, as he was one of the reasons I came here."

The former QPR and Crystal Palace boss has landed his first job since October after Flavio Briatore gave him his marching orders off the back of a disappointing display away at Swansea City.

Dowie`s men couldn`t muster a shot on target against full back Alan Tate after goalkeeper Dorus de Vries was stretchered off early in the first period.
