Ainsworth Praises Excellent Support

Queens Park Rangers caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth praised the Loftus Road crowd following a drab final game in W12 this season.

Rangers and Plymouth Argyle played out a goalless draw in England`s capital to keep the Pilgrims` Championship status up in the air, and compound the mediocrity that has been on display at home this season.

Ainsworth however was quick to praise supporters who stayed behind to clap the players off during the lap of honour and those who have remained loyal throughout the campaign.

'They were great, as they have been all season long." Ainsworth told QPR.co.uk:

'The reception they gave the players during the lap of honour was excellent.'

Speaking of the game Ainsworth admitted that Plymouth did their job effectively and looked more hungry than Rangers owing to their present plight.

He continued: 'It was hardly a classic was it! It was a typical end of season game.

'I think they came for a point, slowing the game down a lot in the second half.

'Fair play to them - they have every right to do that when their divisional status is at stake.

'Neither keeper has had a difficult save to make really. Radek's kept us in it with a stop or two but neither side really dominated.

'We didn't create too much but then it was Plymouth who needed the points more than us and we frustrated them.'

Ainsworth is destined for a heroic send off in his caretaker charge as Rangers travel to Deepdale to face Preston North End, a side that still harbour play-off ambitions after a hard fought win over Birmingham City.

The Rangers caretaker bss is long remembered as a hero by the Lilywhites faithful as a man who had three spells with the club, and always gets a favourable reception when returning to Lancashire.

Gaz has been overly-generous there - the fans were pretty bad today in my opinion. Only a brief moment of noise and then back on the backs of players when things didn't work out - mind you some of them deserved it.

I must admit I stayed and clapped - most of them have tried hard this season, and whatever the politics I still want to applaud my team for what has been a factual improvement - Here's to hoping a couple of further addition will push us to the next level.
