Delaney Speculation Persists

Queens Park Rangers defender Damien Delaney is being tipped to join up with compatriot Roy Keane at Ipswich Town.

It has been given good coverage over the last few days with several news outlets reporting that a fee of £500,000 may be enough to secure the signature of the Irish international.

The defender who joined from Hull City in January 2008 had a new lease of life under the reign of Italian boss Luigi De Canio, but has since seen his form slip as he takes up a more disciplined role at full back.

What has undoubtedly helped Rangers defensive record has evidently hindered their attacking flair with the Irishman not able to make the buccaneering runs from full back for which he was famed under De Canio.

The R`s have experimented with different options at left-back during his absence, such as Matthew Connolly - the former Arsenal man excellent in all positions across the back four. The man brought in with the intention of providing back up has yet to be seen, with Gary Borrowdale having to be one of strangest purchases for a number of years.

It remains to be seen as to whether the Rangers hierarchy would sell under the nose of a potential new manager but such as the Dexter Blackstock deal to Nottingham Forest, if the money is there would it be worth waiting?

After coming to England from his home town team Cork City, Damien had a spell with Leicester City before joining Hull City and helping the Tigers on the mesmerising run to the Premier League - he joined Queens Park Rangers in January 2008 and got his wish of international football shortly after he signed.

I don't want to see him go really, but that's good money for a player who has had one poor season.
