Foreign Coach Tipped For QPR

Queens Park Rangers look set to explore the foreign market for their new manager after their domestic search did not provide the desired option.

The R`s are set to make a managerial appointment in the next few days according to the Kilburn Times and a foreign option is being lined-up as a suitable replacement for Paulo Sousa.

Options including Antonio Tapia and Luigi De Canio are being offered by media outlets around the country, with the coaches departing Malaga and Lecce respectively after the final day of the season.

The News of the World threw Zico into the mix yesterday (Sunday) along with persistent rumours that AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini may follow his former boss Carlo Ancelotti to West London.

A British based option was explored according to the Kilburn Times with Jim Magilton and Aidy Boothroyd both interviewed for the post, along with the likes of Neil Warnock and Kevin Blackwell outlined as potential targets.

It seems however that Rangers will have to look further afield if they are to find a suitable candidate to take them to the Premier League.

Doesn't surprise me a bit. And I'm very glad given some of the dross that have been put into the frame,

Me too - I'm not concerned with how long it's taking, provided it's the right bloke. Maldini, not so sure to be honest but Tapia does look an excellent bloke to get if we can do it.

I think that, most likely, the Board have interviewed loads of different blokes from both the British Isles and abroad - and are choosing based on what they want from the "First Team Coach" as well as what the bloke can give us. And it doesn't surprise me at all that they're looking abroad coz it seems to suit their backroom set-up - it seems easier to persuade a foreign fella to accept Paladini's role as hirer & firer, than an Englishman!

I'm a Malaga fan from the year I lived there a coupla years back, and people in the city like Tapia, so I think he'd be a shrewd appointment... Which sadly means it probably won't happen!
Guttermouth
You just never know guttermouth, apparently he had an offer before we got Sousa, it was easy to say no then because he was in work. But maybe if we come calling again...

At least the potential names in the frame are a bit more interesting than the likes of Blackweel, Boothroyd, "Colin" and Calderwood.

I would have wanted 'Colin' not Calderwood that is. Good pedigree at getting sides promoted, football isn't that bad. Blackwell hasn't got a side promoted or kept a side up and plays nasty football - so, no!
