A rumoured target has decided to take up coaching in the Premier League rather than continue his playing career.

The former Turkish international was destined to leave Ewood Park this summer after his contract was not renewed by boss Sam Allardyce.

Queens Park Rangers emerged as candidates to capture his signature in an effort to keep him playing for a further year, but today he opted to finish his playing career.

Speaking to Turkish television channel NTV he explained how he has opted to join former boss Mark Hughes at Manchester City.

He said: 'I made an agreement with Manchester City and will work as a coach,'

'To work there will be a huge step for me. When I feel strong enough, then I will begin to work as a technical director.'

Not sure I ever truly believed this one in the first place, but would have been useful.

Agree - that is, I didn't really believe the rumour but wouldn't have said "no!" if he become a player of ours!!

The funny thing is that he is in the same category as Tommasi - experienced midfielder that's probably past his best. And most (not me) were delighted when we got shot of him.

I thought Tommasi was a really useful player, despite the fact he was stuck at left mid for a couple of games!

I don't quite know why he was released, I can only assume it was a clash of roles with Sousa, young impressionable coach - once great player etc. I think once fit he looked a decent player, an absolute collossus in that game v Brum
