Magilton Reaction - Bradley Allen

Former QPR striker Bradley Allen gives his thoughts concerning the recent managerial appointment of Jim Magilton.

Allen, who is now a coach at Tottenham Hotspur believes that it was a surprise appointment and it will be interesting to see how much time the owners give Magilton to turn Rangers into promotion challengers.

'It's a big job at Queens Park Rangers. These new owners want success, instant success." Allen told BBC Radio London.

'How long he's going to be given to move Rangers towards those play-offs is going to be interesting.

'But there's some big, strong teams in that league this season and it's going to be hard for Jim.'

Allen thought that Rangers could have been better served going for a manager such as Alan Curbishley, his former manager at Charlton Athletic.

There has been some confusion as to the availability of the former West Ham United manager who ruled himself out of the race owing to legal wrangling with the Hammers.

Nevertheless Allen believed he was the prime candidate for QPR and outlines the reasons he believes Curbishley wouldn`t want the job.

He said: 'My old manager at Charlton, who's been out of a job since he left West Ham, Alan Curbishley, has got it on his CV to get a club out of the Championship.

'But just perhaps he would have wanted an element of more control, that's why somebody like Alan hasn't gone for that job.

'Whereas with regards to Jim, someone new to it, he would accept to a degree certain decisions being made and that just seems to be the case at Rangers at the moment.'

The Romford born striker made 81 appearances for Queens Park Rangers with father Les, brother Clive and cousin Martin all plying their trade with the R`s. He scored 27 goals for Rangers in a seven year spell at Loftus Road.
