Rehman Turns Down Higher League

Former Queens Park Rangers defender signed for Bradford City today (Friday) in the wake of interest from clubs in a higher league.

Barely a month since the Pakistan international defender was released from W12 he has been snapped up by the Bantams despite reported interest from a higher level.

The 25-year old defender played 17 games for Bradford in the latter part of the 2008-09 season after an unsuccessful spell with Blackpool in the Championship.

Since his move he has been instrumental in encouraging young Asians to take up football and is seen as a roll model by many with his work in the community.

He told the Telegraph and Argus: 'There were a couple of other clubs in from a higher league but this felt right.

'My gut feeling told me to sign for Bradford and I've absolutely no regrets.

'From day one I felt at home here and I'm fortunate enough to have played in all the divisions and I see this as the next step of my journey.

'I'm 25 now and still feel the best years are ahead of me.'

Rehman signed for Queens Park Rangers in August 2006 under the reign of Gary Waddock, and has overseen the dramatic change in his three years at the club, working under five permanent managers and two caretaker bosses.

He was paraded on the pitch before a Championship fixture with Leeds United before making his debut the subsequent Saturday against Southend United alongside fellow debutante Dexter Blackstock.

Rehman made 49 appearances for the R`s in total without troubling the scorers and had loan spells at Brighton & Hove Albion, Blackpool and most recently his new club, Bradford City.
