Former Queens Park Rangers midfielder and current Aldershot boss Gary Waddock is pleased with the R`s reserves switch to the Recreation Ground.

Speaking to theshots.co.uk the former QPR boss was delighted to see Rangers move from Loftus Road to the Recreation Ground.

'It is great to have QPR reserves at the EBB for next season," he said.

"It is a similar situation to when we had Reading Reserves a couple of seasons ago. It provides me and Martin (Kuhl) the opportunity to keep tabs with Combination football on the doorstep too."

Another positive for Waddock was the links he could develop with his former club and a great deal of effort has been undertaken by the club to secure this deal.

'Importantly though it also enables Aldershot as a club to develop good, positive links with a Championship outfit and that is something that is encouraging.

'Our Secretary Graham Hortop has undertaken a great deal of time and effort as this arrangement has been confirmed and he should be greatly credited for his involvement.

'For QPR though it also enables their reserve team to play on such a fine surface too and one that we are so proud of here at Aldershot.'

This move comes in response to the state of the playing surface at Loftus Road last season with players expressing their concerns.

The deal is seen to be mutually beneficial to both clubs with Rangers able to retain a good surface in W12 and Aldershot able to strengthen links with a Championship outfit.

QPR boss Jim Magilton told QPR.co.uk that to play the attractive brand of football he desires then it would benefit the side if the reserves were re-homed.

'It's imperative that the First Team have the best possible playing surface next season," said Jim

'As a Club, we have invested significantly on the Loftus Road pitch this summer and by only playing First Team fixtures there, we will maximise what we are able to get out of it.

'We want to play an attractive, passing brand of football and to do that to the best of our ability, we need a surface that will stand up to the rigours of a long Championship campaign.'

Rangers will travel to Aldershot in their first pre-season fixture which takes place on Saturday July 11.
