Clubs Tussle For Defender Delaney

Coventry City are now believed to be the front-runners to capture the signature of QPR full back Damien Delaney.

The defender has been linked with both Cardiff City and Ipswich Town in recent times but reports have surfaced today to suggest that Coventry City are in pole position for the Irish international.

The deal reported to be in the region of £700,000 can only be completed when new QPR boss Jim Magilton returns from a coaching course next week.

Delaney enjoyed a tremendous early spell at Loftus Road, galloping forward with free reign under former boss Luigi De Canio. A combination of Iain Dowie and Paulo Sousa harnessed his attacking tendencies in a mediocre season for the former Hull City man.

Ipswich Town were initially rumoured to be in line to sign Delaney, but news today has filtered through that the Sky Blues and Cardiff City are hot on the trail of the Irishman.

Why must we sell player that some feel are not good enough without finding a replacement first? Delany is our best left back and selling him would just add to our problems.
