Trialist Linked With Carlisle

Trialist David Connolly has been linked with a move to Carlisle United today, despite Greg Abbott believing he's still in QPR's sights.

The 32-year-old striker had appeared for the R`s against Aldershot at the beginning of pre-season but failed to make an impact on boss Jim Magilton in that fixture.

Since then there has been no word on the former Sunderland and West Ham United front-man as he attracts the interest of Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott who seems keen to move for the forward.

He revealed to the News and Star that the striker is still with Queens Park Rangers possibly on a training basis: 'We have been talking to David about his future on an informal basis,' he said.

'He has had a long time out with injury and I'm not sure where he is at with that at the moment.

'He hasn't necessarily come under scrutiny as a signing, but if he was to leave QPR and wanted to play some football, then we would certainly be interested in a player of his ability.

'It would be very expensive and David has had his injury problems, so it is one we have just discussed to see where he is at.'

The quote from Abbott suggests that the door is still open for Magilton and Connolly to strike a deal to bring him to W12, whether or not this is a misquote or merely a rumour remains to be seen.
