Queens Park Rangers have today (Thursday) been announced as the highest payers of agents fees in the Football League in the past six months.

The R's have paid £420,290 in total over the last year with £380,000 coming in the last six months, and with agent fees plummeting by £2m over the last year it is Rangers that sit top of the pile.

The figures include 16 transfers in, one updated contract, 11 cancelled contracts and three loan deals, making a total of 31 deals for Rangers.

Across the board League clubs committed £8.8m to agents between July 2008 and June 2009 compared to £11.1m for the same period in 2007/08.

There were 3,727 deals in the Football League during the 2008/09 season, 229 (6.1%) involved agents amounting to £8,809,501 committed to agents.

Championship clubs made a hefty 86% cut of this figure amounting to £7.5m, with all clubs in the second tier committing to agents fees.

Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney said: 'Given the current financial outlook, it is encouraging that clubs are being more circumspect in terms of their payments to agents.

'In fact, clubs only committed to pay an agent in 6% of the 3,700 player transactions that took place during the course of the season. This is the lowest figure recorded in the five seasons since the publication of agents' fees began.

'I would like to think that in pioneering the publication of agents' fees, The Football League has helped bring this about.'
