Jim - We've Deserved That

Jim Magilton has praised his Queens Park Rangers players following their first victory of the campaign, against Scunthorpe United.

Rangers won the game courtesy of an early goal from Tottenham Hotspur loanee Adel Taarabt, and Magilton told QPR.co.uk that this was justice for the way his side has played in recent games.

'I'm delighted, said Magilton.

'I think that the performance was good, we haven't picked up the points some of our performances have deserved.

'Today is as bright as we've started any game. We know that Scunthorpe are a difficult side to get anything from, so I'm really pleased for the players.

'We know we can be better, sometimes we lacked composure, but it was important to get a win. We've got a win and now we can really hit the ground running in September.

'For me, the players have had a lot of games in a short space of time. For some, it (the international break) will be a time of recharging the batteries and for others, it will be a lot of hard work.'

A tantalising statement from Magilton that suggests some of the players are not performing to the standards that he comes to expect.

The praise for his players comes off the back of criticism from some quarters most notably from fans and the press, where they were booed off at half time in a self-confessed poor display against Accrington Stanley.

Indeed Jim has been his side`s biggest critic but insists there is more to come from his players in the face of this latest result as he looks to introduce new ideas to the squad.

'We know we can be better as a group, and we will be," he continued.

'There are still a lot of things I want to introduce, but we've got an honest bunch of players, who are very respondent to what we throw at them.

'Once they cross the white line, we want them to be more composed, but that will only come through winning games.

'I think that these lads going off for two weeks know that they can be better, but I'm certainly delighted with the result.'

The international break now leaves a blank week for QPR to reflect on their opening to the campaign, and following that they face the man that has been linked with the post at Loftus Road several times - Darren Ferguson.

His Peterborough side have had an indifferent start to the Championship following back to back promotions but will undoubtedly provide stiff opposition at Loftus Road.
