Derry Vows Payback Against QPR

Crystal Palace skipper Shaun Derry has apologised to supporters for the Eagles loss at home to Scunthorpe and wants to set things straight against QPR.

The 31-year-old midfielder was as shocked as anyone that Palace were thrashed at home by relegation favourites Scunthorpe United.

He told the Croydon Advertiser that both he and Neil Warnock had their say at what was an extremely surprising result at Selhurst Park.

'As players we can only apologise to the fans for the performance, it simply isn't good enough,' said Derry.

'I was very surprised by it. Although the results might not have come so far, I thought we had been playing some good stuff this season.

'I certainly didn't see it coming and nor did any of the lads. As captain I said my bit in the changing room as did some of the other senior players, as well as the gaffer."

The Crystal Palace skipper can have little to complain about himself having played the entire fixture to little effect, but nevertheless has vowed that matters will be rectified against Queens Park Rangers tomorrow night.

'It's important to try and put that behind us now and not dwell on the result.

'Luckily we've got games coming thick and fast starting with the trip to QPR. All the lads will want to put things right and we hope to do that at Loftus Road.

'It's all about finding some consistency and we hope we can do that and repay the fans for their support.'

Derry is no stranger to Loftus Road having played there eight times with three different clubs. He has only been on the losing side once when playing for Sheffield United.

In total he has made 13 appearances against QPR including the sending off in 2005 when playing for Leeds United, where his reaction to Marc Bircham saw him receive his marching orders.
