Jim Magilton has praised the work ethic and ability of full-back Mikele Leigertwood following his performance against Barnsley.
The R's dished out a sound thrashing to the Tykes at Loftus Road, with Leigertwood bagging the first of Rangers' five from the edge of the area.
Further goals from Akos Buzsaky, Ben Watson and Jay Simpson sealed the game to dispel Barnsley's brief flurry at the beginning of the second half.
Magilton told QPR.co.uk that the former Sheffield United and Crystal Palace man Leigertwood is a class act both on and off the field.
'Mikele is an outstanding athlete and an outstanding person, both on and off the park,' said Jim
'He has goals in his locker, there's no doubt about that.
'He scored a wonderful goal playing in midfield earlier in the campaign from an area which I believe he can really exploit and he bombed on from right back on Saturday and scored another classic.'
Jim went on to label Leigertwood as a 'proper footballer' and an 'awesome individual' during his time in W12.
Referring to the side in general Jim looked ahead to what will be a tough task against Newcastle United on Wednesday night, a side that had a goal glut of their own at the weekend.
Magilton believed there's still work to be done despite a positive early showing: 'It's still very much work in progress,' Jim added.
'There's so much room for improvement.
'There's a long way to go, but there's a great belief in the camp and the confidence is growing.
'We set ourselves high standards here and we'll continue to do so.'
The R's make the long trip to Tyneside on Wednesday night with a kick time of 7:45pm. It will undoubtedly be the R's toughest test to date against one of the relegated Premier League sides.
