Rowlands - I Have A Chance

Queens Park Rangers skipper Martin Rowlands has admitted that he has a chance of being involved in Ireland's forthcoming international fixtures.

Rowlands was called up to the Ireland squad after being placed on back-up for Giovanni Trapattoni's side, and believes he has a chance of being involved as Eire take on Italy this Saturday.

'There`s always a chance," he told the Irish Examiner.

"If you are in the squad, that you can start or be involved off the bench. Those lads are obviously injured and weren`t able to make it and that gives an opportunity to somebody else.

'Whether that be me or somebody else, I`m sure someone will take it.'

While Rowlands' call-up has been great cause for celebration among QPR fans, the media has inextricably linked his name with that of snubbed midfielder Andy Reid.

The Sunderland man was overlooked for selection once more by Italian boss Trapattoni despite a good start to the season in the Premier League.

Rumours of a late night bust-up concerning fitness and form between the midfielder and the Eire boss, have reportedly led to his omission once more, but this doesn't concern the R's midfielder.

'There`s no pressure on me,' Rowlands admitted.

'Andy is a good player and a good lad. I know him from previous squads but that`s nothing to do with me, what is happening between the FAI and Andy. It`s not on my agenda.'

Should Rowlands make an appearance for Ireland it will be his first in several years after being called up by Brian Kerr previously.
