German Features In Shots Defeat

Young striker Antonio German had a cameo role in his side's defeat at the hands of Shrewsbury Town.

With the loss of Gary Waddock to Wycombe Wanderers still setting in at Recreation Ground, caretaker boss Jason Dodd was charged with the unenviable task of leading the Shots to the New Meadow.

Paul Simpson's underachieving Shrews looked like they were going to be on the end of another disaster day when Louie Soares capped off some good recent form with a goal for the visitors.

Bolstered by new additions on loan combined with some old heads like former QPR man Paul Murray, the Shrews drew level courtesy of Doncaster loanee Waide Fairhurst.

The task of hanging on the lead became that much more difficult when Shots defender Dave Winfield was given his marching orders ten minutes before half time.

The pressure told at a crucial time when Lewis Neal struck in first half injury time to hand the hosts the lead for the first time in the game.

Nathan Elder settled the contest on the hour mark with his strike, and it was going to be a case of how many more for the hosts.

Antonio German come on for Andy Sandell with three minutes remaining to freshen up a flagging front-line, but he had little time to make an impact on proceedings.
