Edgar Davids Set QPR Deadline

Former Netherlands international Edgar Davids has been given 24 hours to commit either way to an offer from Leicester City.

The midfielder who has been capped 74 times for Holland has been linked with a sensational move to the Walkers Stadium in recent weeks, but a deal is yet to come to fruition.

Chairman Milan Mandaric, who is never short of a few words, told Sky Sports that the time has come for the midfielder to decide as he hopes to be in the squad for the QPR clash on Friday.

'We have given him 24 hours to respond,' Mandaric said.

'At the moment, I'm not sure where we are with it. I don't know, nor have I been given, any indication one way or other.

'I'd say it's 50-50 at the moment. By today, we should find out more.'

This wouldn't be the first time that the former Portsmouth chairman has gone for a big name player, when Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was linked with the Foxes.

Boss Martin Allen's refusal to sign the former Leeds United and Chelsea man is said to be one of the contributing factors to his swift departure.

Quite how much input current manager Nigel Pearson has in this transfer remains to be seen, but it could be something akin to the Damiano Tomassi transfer that ended acrimoniously for Iain Dowie.

Davids' reputation would indeed provide a PR boost for the club plying his trade with some of the elite clubs including Juventus, Barcelona and both halves of Milan.

Should he pen the deal in time he would have to dislodge Richie Wellens and Matthew Oakley, both of whom have performed admirably in the Foxes positive start to the season.
