Connolly Return Imminent?

Matthew Connolly could be in line to return to first team action soon after a bout of glandular fever.

The former Arsenal defender has been sidelined since August after contracting the illness and there was little knowledge surrounding the club as to when he would return.

Such is the nature of the illness, especially for an athlete, there was speculation that Connolly could be out until the new year as he continues his recovery.

Reports today by Eurosport suggest that Connolly could return as soon as the fixture against Doncaster Rovers following the international break.

He reportedly returned to training earlier this week and faces a battle to get fit in time for the clash at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday November 21.

QPR physio Paul Hunter is quoted as saying: 'It's very difficult to determine how long a player can be out with it, as each individual is different,

'Thankfully he has had no problems since he returned to full training and now we'll be working hard with him as he builds his fitness up.

'All being well I expect him to be available once the upcoming international break has passed.'

It is good timing as Damion Stewart has been temporarily sidelined with a foot injury, and Fitz Hall currently partners Kaspars Gorkšs at the heart of the rearguard.

Connolly's commanding display away at Scunthorpe helped earn QPR their first maximum of the campaign and it will certainly be a boost to fans and players alike to hear this positive news.
