Laws Fears Simpson Threat

Brian Laws has admitted that he would love Jay Simpson among his ranks after failing to land the striker in the summer.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star the Owls boss admitted that the club made a concerted effort to lure Simpson to Hillsborough but he opted for a club closer to home.

'Simpson is going to be a threat,' said Laws.

'He likes to play on the shoulder; he's quick, and he's got an eye for goal; he's a poacher.

'We worked so hard on getting him here. At one stage we thought we'd got him. But when QPR came in, it was a no-brainer for him. They were on his doorstep, and I could understand his decision.'

Wednesday plugged the gap with tried and tested loanee Luke Varney, who proved successful in a previous spell from Derby County.

Looking ahead to tomorrow's fixture Laws assessed Rangers line-up and style of play believing they are one of the best sides in the league.

'They're one of the best attacking teams I've seen in the championship; they're very quick and technically very good,' Laws continued.

'This is going to be as stiff a test as I've seen since I've been at the club. They have players who can hurt you.

'But we're at home, where we've been very good. We've been very attack-minded and created a lot of openings.

'Hillsborough is not an easy place to come to when we play our football. There are areas where we can hurt them.'

Laws admitted that it is up to the hosts to assert their advantage and Rangers will always give them opportunities due to their open nature.

While Simpson was outlined as a key player, Laws also saw Adel Taarabt as an attacking talent, labelling him a 'free spirit' with 'a bag of tricks'.

Both sides will be looking to sign off before the international break in style, notably Rangers who lost to Swansea City prior to the previous break.
