Jim Lauds Ugly Win

Queens Park Rangers manager Jim Magilton believes Rangers class shone through as they were able to grind out a result at Hillsborough.

Rangers beat Sheffield Wednesday courtesy of a Kaspars Gorkšs header eight minutes from time, after surrendering an earlier lead.

Jermaine Johnson's effort off the post pegged back the opener from Jay Simpson only a few minutes previously as the game was finely poised going into the closing stages.

Magilton told QPR.co.uk that his side's ability to grind out the result was a particular delight to the R's boss and his staff.

'It was an ugly win, but that's just as satisfying for me and the rest of the lads in the dressing room as it is winning four or five,' said Jim.

'We've got an awful lot of credit this year for our attacking prowess, but today we had to dig in and the lads showed they have the quality to do that.

'Make no mistake about it, Hillsborough is a very difficult place to come and get a result.

'We knew we'd have to weather a storm with them kicking towards The Kop in the second half, but despite a few scares, we stood up to them and in the end our class shone through from the set-piece.'


While admitting his surprise that Rangers haven't shown their killer instinct from more set-pieces this season, he was all-together happy with the victory.

He was quick to quell talk of promotion however, believing that Rangers are by no means home and hosed when it comes to their displays.

'We're by no means the finished article - not by a long stretch,' Jim continued.

'However, this is a very significant result for us and I couldn't be more delighted.'

Jim now has an extra week to rally his troops and prepare them for the trip to Doncaster Rovers following the international break.
