Magilton Delight At Williams Capture

Queens Park Rangers boss Jim Magilton has revealed his delight at capturing Tommy Williams on a short-term loan.

The R's boss believes that Williams will provide competition for places in the specialist position of left-back.

Magilton was also full of praise for Sporting Director Gianni Paladini, who managed to engineer the move at short notice.

He told QPR.co.uk: 'I just felt we needed a bit more competition in that department.

'It's no reflection on Gary Borrowdale or Peter Ramage, who have both played in that left back position for us this season, but when a player of Tommy's quality becomes available, it's too good an opportunity to turn down.'

Rangers saw a taster of what to expect earlier this season when Williams crossed from the left flank for Aaron McLean to open the scoring for Peterborough United at Loftus Road.

That performance and much more has prompted Magilton to dip into the loan market and bring Williams to W12, as he describes his strenghts.

'He's got a quality left foot and as he showed here earlier in the season, he's got decent pace and a great delivery from wide areas,' he said.

'It's a short term deal initially, but he's out of contract in the summer and he's got a great opportunity to impress us.'

Williams made 34 appearances for Rangers over the two spells in 2002 and 2003, while also featuring in the Division Two playoff final.

He has since achieved back to back promotions with the Posh, and now looks to enter a new phase in his career, in a bid to impress R's boss Jim Magilton.
