Vital QPR profiles new loan signing Tommy Williams

Name: Tommy Williams

Date of Birth: July 8, 1980 (Carshalton)

Former Clubs: Walton & Hersham, West Ham United, Peterborough United (L3), Peterborough United (3), Birmingham City, QPR (L2), Barnsley, Gillingham, Swansea City, Wycombe Wanderers.

Appearances (Goals): 271 (5)

After impressing with Walton & Hersham, West Ham United snapped up a young Tommy Williams for £40,000. He was subsequently loaned out to Peterborough United in 2001 making two appearances for the Posh.

He impressed sufficiently enough to sign permanently at London Road in the summer, and in just one season he managed to raise awareness from higher league clubs. This prompted Birmingham City to pay £350,000 for his services.

After four appearances at the back end of the 2001-02 season that saw the Blues to promotion he signed a loan spell at Queens Park Rangers at the beginning of the R's second season in Division Two.

26 appearances for Rangers followed as they progressed to the playoff final. Williams featured as the R's lost out narrowly to Cardiff City at the Millennium Stadium.

After the success of his initial spell, he penned a further deal into the new campaign and featured in a variety of positions including the centre of midfield, before moving back to Peterborough United on loan once more.

He made 14 appearances before signing permanently at London Road. He made seven further appearances before he was on the move again, with a free transfer deal seeing him join Barnsley.

Williams played the entire season for the League One Tykes, 39 games in total, before a brief spell at Gillingham where he began to once again impress.

Owing to their financial problems Kenny Jackett snapped him up from Swansea, in a season where they narrowly missed out on promotion via the playoffs once more.

Despite a good run in the Swansea side, he was released and penned a deal with Wycombe Wanderers, before being snapped up once again by Peterborough United on an emergency loan before another permanent move to London Road.

It was evident that this was his most successful spell, helping Peterborough to back to back promotions under Darren Ferguson. So far this Championship campaign he has made 13 appearances for the Posh, before penning his loan deal with Queens Park Rangers on November 9, 2009.
