Jim Magilton could be set to dip into the transfer market to take one of his former midfielders to Loftus Road.
Looking at the situation at relative clubs, very few would have predicted these circumstances at the beginning of the season, with Magilton flourishing while Keane flounders.
Keane was indeed heavily linked to the post in W12, but there was an air of confusion when Jim was handed the 'poison chalice,' not now as the Northern-Irishman continues to display his credentials.
Indeed once he was appointed the R's were linked to former players Jon Stead and Jon Walters, but now the latest link sees talented midfielder Owen Garvan linked to Loftus Road.
Garvan has been reportedly attracting the interest of many Championship outfits in recent weeks, with Cardiff City the club most persistently linked to the midfielder.
The Irish international midfielder has apparently incurred the wrath of Roy Keane with the Mirror linking him to W12, the Welsh capital as well as big-spenders Nottingham Forest.
