Reid Wants To Throw Off Injury Shackles

New Queens Park Rangers loan capture Steven Reid has told of his delight at joining the club on loan.

The R's secured the capture of the Irish international today (Thursday), and Reid himself is looking to get games under his belt after an extended period on the sidelines.

A back injury combined with a succession of knee injuries has scuppered Reid's progress at both club and international level, and a loan back to London will provide some much needed minutes.

Reid told QPR.co.uk that he is happy just to get back out on the field and give Rangers the vital boost they need in the coming weeks.

'It's all happened very quickly,' he said.

'I'm delighted to be here and I'm ready to get going.

'I've had a few injuries over the last couple of years and people may think I've gone off the radar a bit, so this is an opportunity for me to come in and play a few games.'

Reid reached a playoff place in Millwall's first season back in the division in 2002 - and this is something that he hopes to help emulate at QPR.

Despite only being a short-term loan Reid didn't rule out the possibility of a longer-term move as the January transfer window draws closer.

He continued: 'I am looking forward to the challenge. I know what the Championship is about from my time at Millwall. It's a great league to be involved in and hopefully I can bring some experience to the camp,' he said.

'I have been fit for the last couple of months, but have found myself out of favour at Blackburn. That's football, but I am available for selection this weekend and can't wait to get going.

'There is clearly a very good squad here. They're doing well in the league and hopefully I can add to that so we can keep our place in the play-offs, and maybe even kick on a bit more.

'If it goes well, perhaps my stay here will be extended - we will just have to see how things go.'

Reid has been given the number 36 shirt at Loftus Road and will look to go straight into the side to face Doncaster Rovers this weekend.

It seems a distinct possibility given that Martin Rowlands and Gavin Mahon have been struck down with long-term injuries.

Ben Watson and Alejandro Faurlín will undoubtedly give Jim Magilton food for thought after a good showing against Sheffield Wednesday however.
