'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Furlong Is Gareth's Inspiration

Gareth Ainsworth has indicated that he wants to play as long as he possibly can, which is one of the main reasons behind joining Wycombe Wanderers.

Ainsworth joined former R's midfielder Gary Waddock at Adams Park, and made his debut in the surprise 2-0 win over Millwall at the weekend.

Ainsworth's lack of first-team football has seen him feature only twice in two seasons for Rangers, and at this time in his career he believes he needs to be playing.

Citing another former QPR player, Ainsworth believes that he will play until the day comes when he cannot give his all anymore.

'I want to keep playing football for as long as I can,' Gareth told wycombewanderers.co.uk.

'I'm 37 at the end of the season but I feel good and I feel fit. My mate Paul Furlong is still going over at Barnet aged 41, so as long as he keeps going it encourages me to keep going.

'The day Gareth Ainsworth can't be flying in giving 100% is the day you won't see him on the pitch. It's not a cliché, whatever shirt

'I have on my back I give 100% for that team and the QPR fans will respect that I'm doing that for Wycombe. It's been like that throughout my career and I pride myself on never quitting and giving up.'

Ainsworth was hailed by Vital Wycombe after his performance at the Den as Wycombe bounced back in style.

His passion and enthusiasm won the hearts and minds of all Queens Park Rangers supporters as he remains the joint longest-serving player alongside Martin Rowlands.

Gareth's cameo against former club Preston North End earlier this season sprung the crowd into life as they willed their hero forward.

Wycombe are now set to benefit from his attacking talent and never-say-die attitude, as Ainsworth looks to haul the Chairboys away from the League One drop zone.
