R's Target Joins Clarets

Rangers target Steve Jones has joined Burnley on a three-year deal after leaving relegated Crewe.

The 29-year old forward had been tracked by former boss Ian Holloway and current caretaker Gary Waddock was also keen on the Northern Ireland star.

Holloway went public with his interest in the player during the January transfer window, enflaming the Crewe manager Dario Gradi with rage at 'unsettling his player'.

Jones rejected two offers of a new contract at Gresty Road and was advised to join the Turf Moor club over Rangers by the Railwaymen.

Burnley supremo Steve Cotterill said: 'We are delighted to have agreed a deal for Steve, who I think will be one of the best Bosman signings of the summer.

'He is a great lad who possesses great pace and I feel we could have done with that this season.'

1 target down, I thought he was a half decent player when Crewe won at HQ this year. Although he doesn't score enough goals for a forward.
