Boro's Williams Eyes Win

Rhys Williams hopes to dispel Middlesbrough's historically poor record at Loftus Road, as they travel to West London this weekend.

'Boro have never beaten QPR away from home and have shipped several goals in the process, with the R's hitting four goals three times.

The last meeting between the two sides saw QPR strike five times over ten years ago - but despite this unwanted statistic Middlesbrough went on to achieve promotion.

Despite this statistic looming large Rangers haven't picked up a win at Loftus Road in their last three attempts - some may argue a more prevalent point.

Williams believes that historical facts count for nothing in this weekend's encounter as Middlesbrough look to get off the mark under Gordon Strachan.

'None of these players in this dressing room have played there I don't think,' he told mfc.co.uk

'It's time to turn things around.

'They've brought in some players and I think it will be a good test for us.

'Kits got two goals at the weekend and hopefully we can follow that up with a few more. I'm looking forward to it.'

Williams himself didn't feature in his side's last game but will look to return to the fold this weekend.

He could replace Tony McMahon at full back, or could slot into midfield alongside either Isiah Osbourne or Argentinean Julio Arca.

Whatever position he plays, the Australian international is happy just to feature for his side in what will be a crunch clash at Loftus Road.

'If the gaffer thinks I'm good at right-back that's good, as long as I play,' Williams continued.

'I don't care, as long as I play and still in the team and enjoying my football I'm not bothered to be honest.

'I love being involved in the first team, all the boys are good, we've got a young squad and we've brought in a few experienced players now.

'I've enjoyed every minute of it. We should be near the top, that's the only thing.'

After sacking Gareth Southgate to what the board cited as decreasing crowds, Boro have flattered to deceive with a surprise defeat at home to Plymouth one of many results that saw them plummet out of automatic promotion for the time being.

They currently sit in tenth, but will over-take QPR with a win at Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon.
