'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Keeper Extends His Stay At QPR

39-year old stopper Paul Jones has agreed a new one-year deal to stay at Loftus Road until the end of the 2006/07 season.

The Welsh international who has won 44 caps signed from Wolves in February on a free transfer and told the official QPR website, I'm delighted to sign.

He said: 'I'm delighted to have signed, there was never any doubt I'd re-sign.

'When I came here initially it was just to help out in the short term, but I got the buzz back and really enjoyed my time towards the end of the season.'

Jones' was last week picked in the Welsh squad to face a Basque XI and Trinidad & Tobago as they warm up for the World Cup.

Speaking to www.stellargroup.co.uk. Jones admitted he was looking forward to helping Rangers rise up the league next season after a turbulent season.

'There is no reason why this club should not be challenging for promotion come next season.

'This is a club that has established itself in the Premier League before and that has to be our aim before too long.

'I am sure that we will be bringing in some new faces over the summer and the guys who are here all want to put last season behind them and make amends.

'We've got some great youngsters coming through and I'm just glad to be part of the club's future.'

VITAL QPR will keep you up-to-date throughout the summer on transfer deals and contract talks so stay tuned.

Simon Royce is still my number 1 but Jones proved he's capable of playing at this level despite his age.

Great news - a top professional whose performances were a highlight in a poor end of season. I too am a fan of Roycey but having Jonah around to keep him on his toes will do him no harm at all. No one should be an automatic pick.
