The third part of our review of the 2009/10 season.
Swansea City 2-0 QPR - 03-10-2009
Paulo Sousa faced his former charges just months after being relieved of his duties at Loftus Road, but it was clear to see that he still had a good rapport with his ex-players.
Rangers were looking useful going forward but with a distinct lack of punch in the final third, and this was highlighted by a few seconds of madness in the second period.
A miss from point-blank range by Wayne Routledge saw the ball roll loose and Martin Rowlands senselessly commit a foul that saw him booked for a second time, and the R's were down to ten.
Mark Gower effectively put the game beyond doubt with the crucial goal, while Ben Watson was harshly adjudged to have handled for his second yellow moments later.
Lee Trundle sewed matters up in the latter stages with consummate ease as he placed home from close range.
Goals: Gower 74, Trundle 85
Radek Cerny, Mikele Leigertwood, Kaspars Gorkss, Damion Stewart, Gary Borrowdale, Wayne Routledge, Ben Watson (Sent Off 77), Martin Rowlands (Sent Off 53), Akos Buzsaky (Adel Taarabt 76), Rowan Vine (Alejandro Faurlín 61), Jay Simpson (Alessandro Pellicori 76).
QPR 4-0 Preston North End - 17-10-2009
Rangers hosted Preston North End in a bid to continue the form from the drubbing of Barnsley a few weeks previously, and they certainly didn't disappoint with Adel Taarabt lighting up the occasion.
His frankly stunning effort gave Rangers the lead as he beat several players from the middle of the park before unleashing a curling, dipping effort beyond Andy Lonergan.
He was brought down in the area for the second as Ákos Buzsáky slammed home from the spot, while Jay Simpson rounded off an excellent team move for the third in the second half.
There was also time for Wayne Routledge to get in on the act as he placed home five minutes from time to see the R's to a comfortable win.
Goals: Taarabt 11, Buzsáky 63pen, Simpson 74, Routledge 85
Team: Radek Cerny, Peter Ramage, Kaspars Gorkss, Damion Stewart, Gary Borrowdale, Gavin Mahon, Alejandro Faurlín, Ákos Buzsáky (Patrick Agyemang 66), Adel Taarabt, Wayne Routledge (Gareth Ainsworth 87), Jay Simpson (Rowan Vine 66).
QPR 4-1 Reading - 20-10-2009
There could be no question that Rangers were over their home blip, and they welcomed a struggling Reading side to W12.
A victory looked in doubt as referee Andy Hall dished out a second yellow card to Ben Watson for taking a free-kick too quickly, but the re-taken set piece was beautifully placed home by Ákos Buzsáky.
It was difficult to see what side was down to ten as Rangers continued to outplay their opposition and soon had their second goal, much to the chagrin of Reading's support.
Faurlín's excellent pass found Wayne Routledge, and the cross found Jay Simpson lurking on the far post who in turn placed home with breathtaking composure on the volley.
Reading were also harshly down to ten when Ívar Ingimarsson was given his second yellow at the start of the second half, while Rowan Vine and Patrick Agyemang rounded off the scoring from the bench.
Reading did bag a consolation for the Royals but that could not hide the calls for Brendan Rodgers' head from the visiting fans.
Goals: Buzsáky 31, Simpson 39, Vine 71, Agyemang 83; Howard 86
Team: Radek Cerny, Peter Ramage, Damion Stewart, Wayne Routledge, Ákos Buzsáky (Gavin Mahon 66), Kaspars Gorkss, Ben Watson (Sent Off 30), Alejandro Faurlín, Jay Simpson (Rowan Vine 53), Gary Borrowdale, Adel Taarabt (Patrick Agyemang 76).
Derby County 2-4 QPR - 24-10-2009
Rangers first match on the BBC in over a decade yielded a thumping result as the R's promotion credentials were laid bare for the viewing public.
The visitors went two goals down when Paul Dickov then Robbie Savage netted for Derby - the second an excellently taken free-kick despite the visitors' domination.
Shortly before half time Adel Taarabt bent a free-kick home and their was an air of inevitablity of what was to come.
After half time some stunning football saw Wayne Routledge nod down a cross from Taarabt with Gavin Mahon placing home the equaliser, before Jay Simpson saw the R's into a second half lead.
Rangers third four-goal haul in succession was complete when Routledge was sent tumbling and Ákos Buzsáky place home the resultant penalty.
Goals: Dickov 10, Savage 36; Taarabt 40, Mahon, 47, Simpson 59, Buzsáky 90pen
Team: Radek Cerny, Peter Ramage (Mikele Leigertwood 61), Kaspars Gorkss, Damion Stewart, Gary Borrowdale, Gavin Mahon, Alejandro Faurlín, Ákos Buzsáky, Adel Taarabt (Patrick Agyemang 75), Wayne Routledge, Jay Simpson (Rowan Vine 75).
QPR 1-2 Leicester City - 30-10-2009
The final game of the month brought with it expectation, the Sky cameras and most importantly Leicester City, billed as the next victims of Magilton's rampant Rangers.
It would be fair to say that matters didn't go according to plan as the Foxes strangled Rangers attacking threat and looked by far the better team for vast proportions of the game.
Adel Taarabt gave Rangers the lead against the run of play, but they were quickly pegged back when Matty Fryatt showed great composure to nod home from close range.
The second half belonged to Leicester and after Cerny's horrendous throw was taken by Fryatt who completed his double with consummate ease.
A bitter blow for Rangers lofty hopes and aspirations as Leicester continue to be the Championship's surprise package.
Goals: Taarabt 33; Fryatt 37, 64
Team: Radek Cerny, Peter Ramage (Rowan Vine 67), Kaspars Gorkss, Damion Stewart (Fitz Hall 55), Gary Borrowdale, Alejandro Faurlín, Mikele Leigertwood, Adel Taarabt (Patrick Agyemang 86), Ákos Buzsáky, Wayne Routledge, Jay Simpson.
