Warnock's Ref Praise

Queens Park Rangers boss Neil Warnock has praised England's foremost referee Howard Webb - no really!

A manager who has had his fair share of confrontation with officials, Warnock has made no secret his contempt for a selection of referees.

He was however delighted at the appointment of Howard Webb to today's FIFA World Cup™ final, believing him to be the country's premier official.

'I'm delighted for Howard because he's a real football person,' Warnock told the News of the World.

'Everybody knows what I think of refs and that I thought Graham Poll, for instance, was a legend in his own mind.

'But Howard is quite happy not to be noticed. When I heard he'd got the final, I jumped off the sofa.

'Howard had a poor season in the Premier League. But in South Africa, he's been back to normal.

'He's true to himself and players respect him because of how he acts.'

In recent seasons Warnock hasn't curbed his hard-line approach to officials with only last season Rob Shoebridge in the firing line over the unbelievable ghost goal incident, while Trevor Massey received a tongue lashing for his part in Crystal Palace's FA Cup exit.

It must be a mark of Webb's professionalism and respect that he receives praise for Warnock, and goes to show how far mutual respect can go between officials, management and players.
