Connolly Signs Extension to 2013

A delighted Matthew Connolly has put pen to paper on an extension to his QPR contract. The versatile defender - who was plagued by both illness and injury last season - will now be at Loftus Road until summer 2013.

Connolly told QPR.co.uk that he was 'really pleased to commit (my) future to the Club.'

Connolly joined Rangers from Arsenal in January 2008 and quickly proved to be an astute signing. Connolly's preferred position is Centre Back but he has played all across the back as well as in midfield, when called upon to do so in the past.

He is hoping that, keeping fit and injury-free this season, he can establish himself under Warnock as our regular Centre Back.

Connolly still had one year left on his existing contract and wasn't really looking to sort anything out yet. But he admitted that it was a relief to do so before the new season started: 'It's always good to have your future sorted out nice and early,' he admitted.

'We've got an excellent Manager in place who's going to be here for a few years and the Club is really settled.

'I've been really impressed by Neil Warnock since he came in. He's got a proven track record, alot of experience and I like the way he manages. I am delighted to be a part of it,' Connolly confessed.

Warnock himself was thrilled to secure the services of this young and talented defender: 'This is another important step in getting my squad together and settled for the next couple of years.

'Matt is one of the most exciting young footballers around and I am expecting big things from him in the next 12 months. This is a big season for him,' the Manager added.

And for us?!
