Heidar Strikes - International Round-Up

Queens Park Rangers had a couple of players feature for their countries this evening - here's how they got on.

Heidar Helguson started up front for Iceland as they took on a Norway side without talisman John Carew and it appeared to serve the hosts well as they took the lead.

Former Reading man Gylfi Sigurdsson's shot fell kindly for Helguson, who played poacher to poke home from close range for the opener.

A corner from former Liverpool man John Arne Riise drew the visitors level when Fulham defender Brede Hangeland was able to nod home with relative ease.

Unfortunately for Helguson he spurned a guilt-edge chance to re-claim the lead for Iceland and was ultimately punished as Mohammed Abdellaoue struck with 15 minutes remaining.

The other player to feature was Kaspars Gorkss as Latvia played host to England's former qualifying foes Croatia, but Gorkss and his international colleagues didn't fare well.

Shortly before half time Mladen Petric handed Croatia the lead before further goals from Ivica Olic and Darijo Srna meant that it would be a losing start for Aleksandrs Starkovs' men.
