Helguson Pens Contract Extension

Helguson Pens Contract Extension

QUEENS PARK RANGER`S Icelandic striker Heidar Helguson has signed a new one year deal for the R`s. The 33 year old, who was instrumental in QPR`s promotion to the top flight, will hope to again feature for the R`s in their return to the Premier League.

The number nine expressed his delight at signing the inevitable deal and told QPR.co.uk : 'I`m absolutely delighted.`

'My future lies here. You want to get things sorted out as early as possible and I've been able to do that, which feels good.`

'I wasn't sure what was going to happen when I came back last season, but I spoke to Neil and he wanted me to stay.`

Helguson netted an impressive 13 league goals for Rangers last season and, having played an important role in QPR`s dominance throughout the entire Championship-winning season, is already eager to test his credentials against the world`s best.

Heider added: 'Promotion is starting to sink in and it feels good - really good! Especially after signing a new deal, which means I can now play a part in next season.`

'It will be tough, but I think we've got a great chance of doing well.`

R`s gaffer Neil Warnock is delighted to have extended the striker`s contract and believes his front man`s experience will be vital in the Premier League.

'Heidar made a massive contribution last year, and he'll play a big role again for us in the top-flight next season,` Warnock told QPR.co.uk.

'People forget just how many games he played last season - he was exceptional.`

'It's not just his goals - it's his overall game.`

'He's a big presence in the dressing room; a steadying influence in both training and on matchdays; and he's a great professional.`

'He's also got the experience of having played in the Premier League, so I'm delighted we've managed to agree a new deal with him.`
