'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aston Villa Eye DJ Campbell

Just days after Queens Park Rangers announced that their bid for DJ Campbell had been accepted, Aston Villa have emerged as favourites for his signature.

The former Villa Park youth product has been destined to move away from Blackpool, a club for which he netted 13 top flight goals last season.

A release clause of £1.25m in his contact has interested several parties with Aston Villa now emerging as favourites to land the Hammersmith born striker.

Campbell's story through to England's top league is enchanting indeed with the non-league journeyman finding his feet under Martin Allen at Brentford.

After a sterling FA Cup display against Sunderland, Steve Bruce signed him for Birmingham before Ian Holloway rescued Campbell from his Leicester hell.

Initially a loan deal, Campbell penned a permanent contract with the Tangerines prior to their last gasp delegation last season.

A move to Loftus Road would appeal to the self- professed R's fan but nevertheless a chance to challenge higher up the table could be exactly what DJ needs.

We have Gabby, Bent, Heskey, Delfouneso & Weimann already upfront. We're trying to reduce the wage bill. Buying a crap striker to sit in the stands is not something we would be interested in. I don't believe in this link at all. His Birmingham City connections too would make it an even worse choice for McLeish. QPR you're welcome to him, but he's crap so you would be best looking elsewhere.

He may not be the greatest centre forward, but then again he scored 13 goals last season. No player scored that many for Villa.

I would welcome Campbell at villa given that , with the exception of the outstanding bent, our strikers are *****e

He would be a great signing for QPR and a decent one for us...The villa fans want some superstar to come when we have no money. Apart from bent our strikers cannot score, all pace but no end product. This chap has proved he can nuff said.
